Neal Schon's Piranha Blues will be released July 27th, a new Journey CD featuring Steve Augeri on vocals due early next year, plus a double live album from Vital Information, and a new vocal CD from Jonathan Cain.
The band signed a new contract with Columbia Records and will release a new album by the fall followed by another tour.
Steve Perry's "Greatest Hits CD + Five Unreleased" was released on December 15th. The first single was a previously unreleased song called "When You're In Love, For The First Time." You can now order the CD at CDNOW and CD Universe. In November Steve Perry had surgery for his hip/back problems, which resulted in delays for the Journey reunion tour in 1996.
In 1998, after months of speculation, Steve Perry and Steve Smith have left the band. Because of Perry's hip/back problems he is unable to tour when the rest of the band wants to get back on the road. Smith has opted to return to his jazz band, Vital Information.
Perry announced that the new lead singer is Steve Augeri (Tall Stories) and taking over for Smith on drums is Deen Castronovo (Bad English).
The new Journey (with Augeri and Castronovo) recorded a new song Remember Me (a rocker) which was included in the Bruce Willis movie Armageddon. The soundtrack, which hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and RIAA certified triple platinum, is available in stores such as CDNOW. The song was written by Jonathan, Neal, and Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) and produced by Kevin Shirley (who also produced TBF).
Steve Smith and Vital Information recorded their 8th album, 'Where We Come From,' which was released last year. They just finished a tour of Europe and North America and will travel to Australia this month. You can now order the CD at CDNOW. "No More Lies: The Best of" (Razor & Tie Entertainment) was release in August. The CD collection is comprised of both Schon and Hammer CD's "Here To Stay" and "Untold Passion." You can order it from CDNOW.
On June 9th, the NEW Journey performed a private live rehearsal show in San Rafael, CA, featuring Steve Augeri on lead vocals.
Journey performed live in Japan on June 20, 21, 22, and 25th.
Journey performed at the Kentucky State Fair on Friday August 21st. They also performed at Rockfest in Cadott, Wisconsin, on July 18th. Both concerts featured new lead singer, Steve Augeri, on vocals.
Sony Music released a Journey CD collection titled "Infinity / Frontiers / Escape" on June 30th. You can now order it at CDNOW.
Perry recorded two songs for the animated movie Quest for Camelot (singing voice for King Arthur), which was released in early May. He has recorded a music video for "I Stand Alone," but the music stations have yet to play it.
Speaking of movies, a stringed quartet version of Don't Stop Believin (performed by another band) was included in the movie The Wedding Singer. Although it was not included in the actual soundtrack.
In April Journey released their second live album, Greatest Hits Live 1982-83. The album debuted on the Billboard Hot 200 at #79 (its peak).
The Storm finally released their second CD, Eye of The Storm, in North America. For the past two years the CD was only available in Europe or as an import. The band could tour if the album does well.
On January 13th, Gregg Rolie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an original member of Santana. Sadly, Neal was not honored because he was not an original member.
Jonathan Cain released a another new-aged CD in April called For A Lifetime. The theme of the CD focuses on wedding type songs with a great instrumental version of Open Arms.
